Child Abuse and Intervention: The Possible Views of Montesquieu, Rousseau and Tocqueville.
Today in our society there is an increasing dilemma regarding what members of our society can do regarding a case of child abuse, or alleged child abuse. On this issue, we have the predicament of parental rights and state rights. First, the problem is that a community has to come to an agreement over how to objectify the term "abuse". There is, after all, a difference between discipline and abuse. A society must also be careful to whom it gives the permission to objectify the environment. Once the definition of abuse is made, however, common sense can prevail when a child is being abused. There are, however, no easy solutions to this problem. This paper will examine the overall dilemma to this issue and consider what Montesquieu, Rousseau and Tocqueville would propose on this issue. 9.5 pgs. 5 f/c. 5b.
